Buskirk and Salisbury Center Bridges Repair Progress.

November 22, 2004 - Joe, I will give you the latest on both the Salisbury Center and Buskirk Covered Bridges
The Salisbury Center Bridge was finished in August and reopened that month. The pictures I am sending were taken on labor Day Weekend. You can see how nice and straight the bridge is. The one picture shows the laminated wooden beams the bridge is resting on.
The pictures of the Buskirk Bridge were taken the same weekend, but on a visit on October 10th, the bridge still looked like this, with work being done on one abutment. Work was being held up as they had to get new iron rods for the Howe Truss. The bridge is gone as you can see.
Time will tell what the new Buskirk Bridge will look like. If I get up that way soon, I will update you on the progress.

July 7, 2004 - We visited the Salisbury Center bridge on July 2nd and much progress has been made. Two of the wooden Laminated beams of the four have been installed and the ends of the bottom chord have been spliced and repaired. The arch has been removed so the sag can be removed from the bridge. It sure is great to see this work has started again.

We visited the Buskirk Covered Bridge on July 5th and found that the long glulam beams from Unadilla, N.Y. have been delivered. These will be used for the bottom chords. The floor has been removed and all you can see are the cross members that were under the floor. This project is coming along real well now. Dick Wilson

June 23, 2004 - Joe, I thought I would update you on two of the bridges that are under repair here in New York.
All work has stopped at the Salisbury Center Covered Bridge. This picture was taken on June 19th and as you can see, the bridge has bracing inside as the floor has been removed. All heavy equipment is gone, all that is at the site is the Construction Co. work trailer.
Buskirk Bridge is really coming along now. All false work is in the river and the bridge is being jacked up now. You can even see a small camber in the bridge. The boiler plate is being removed and my photo shows just how much was used on the bottom chord. The same construction company that repaired your Poland Bridge is doing the Buskirk Bridge. This would be a good time to see a bridge being repaired and you can get some good shots of a Howe Truss. All these pictures were taken on June 19th, 2004.

Buskirk and Salisbury Center Bridges Repairs underway.

April 18, 2004 - Joe, just to update you on what is going on here in New York, here are a few photo's from 2 bridges that are undergoing repair now.
We visited Salisbury Center on April 16th and found work underway. The floor is out of the bridge and work is being done on the abutments. Nice pictures can now be taken of the multi-king post truss. Notice that there is a single arch on the inside of the truss, and it does not go down into the abutment. The end of one of the arches is real bad.
Buskirk Covered Bridge was visited on April 16th and we found all the siding removed and the roof also removed. Abutment work is well on its way on the Washington County side. This is a good time to see former repair work on both ends with boiler plate and how it did not work. This old patch up work will all be gone soon.
