Unlisted Austrian CB Gollner Bruecke Discovered

7/18/2009 - Frequent contributor Gregor Wenda of Austria, while exploring Upper Austria, came across a covered bridge not listed in the 1989 edition of the World Guide to Covered Bridges published by the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges. He wrote:
"Please find attached a photo I just snapped in the Austrian province of Upper Austria. It shows a wooden covered bridge in the municipality of Windischgarsten. The CB is colloquially called the "Gollner Bruecke" and spans over a creek called "Dambach". I tried to find out additional info but neither locals nor the tourist center had much more to share. I dropped an email to the mayor's office so perhaps they can provide more data in the weeks to come."     Gregor continued his investigation and subsequently wrote: "Please find attached some more pictures of the CB in Windischgarsten, Upper Austria. As you can see, the covered bridge was made for pedestrians and cyclists while there is an additional broader bridge for road traffic adjacent to it. The mayor's office meanwhile got back to my inquiry and they provided the following statistics on the CB:"

Age: 14 years (built in 1995)
Length: 14 meters (46 ft.)
Width: 2.5 meters (8.2 ft.)
Height: 2.4 meters (7.9 ft.)

All the best, Gregor
[Gregor's bridge may not be listed in the newest issue of the World Guide (2009), but might receive a guide number as a "Romantic Shelter," a companion work to the World Guide for covered bridges without traditional trusses - Ed.]
