Re-discover the Simple Life. . . .
Patrick County is home to two of eight Covered Bridges in Virginia. Covered bridges are disappearing at an alarming rate because of natural disasters, vandalism and lack of maintenance. The Patrick County Board of Supervisors is committed to the preservation and promotion of Patrick County's historic timber covered bridges.

The 1st annual Covered Bridge festival will be hosted in Woolwine, Virginia at Jacks Creek and Bob White Covered Bridges. There will be live bands, numerous artists and craftsmen exhibiting and selling their products, and food vendors. Carriage rides will be available to travel from one covered bridge to the other. Open your mind to yesteryear when horse-drawn wagons and Model T's parked in these "kissing bridges" which provided shelter from the weather.

Covered Bridge History
Jack's Creek Covered Bridge crosses the Smith River in Patrick County on Route 615 just west of Route 8 about two miles south of Woolwine. The 48 foot span built of oak was constructed in 1914 by Charles Vaughan of the Buffalo Ridge area and designed by Walter Weaver of Woolwine. This historic landmark has been bypassed by a modem bridge but has been preserved by the County for future generations.

Bob White covered bridge can be reached by traveling 1.5 miles south on Route 8, east one mile on Route 618to Route 869, then south one-tenth of a mile. This 80-foot truss construction over the Smith River was built in 1921. II served as a connection between Route 8 and Smith River Church of the Brethren on the south side of the Smith River. Bob White Covered Bridge was designed and constructed by Walter Weaver.
